Today is an important day dedicated to and always remembered not as a day that America was terrorized and attacked, but a day that America and New York City joined together to overcome and fight back terrorism.
I will never forget the events that unfolded on Sept. 11, 2001. I will always remember how piece by piece, our people picked up and rebuilt not only a memorial building to replace the Twin Towers, but rebuilt a city and an entire country.
On a recent trip to NYC, I was able to visit, pay my respects, and give tribute to those who committed and sacrificed their lives in the “essence” of freedom. My visit and somber moments at Ground Zero, the site of the World Trade Center attack on 9/11 were accompanied by many memories and many tears.
While my eyes and heart captured the visual nuances of the event, my camera captured these memorable images.

Visiting ground zero was a time and place I will never forget. I was overcome with great emotion and a very humble and somber feeling as I stood and gazed across the space where those events unfolded that day. Truly a moving experience that is not easily put into words.
