  1. As a real estate agent in Michigan, that use the MLS, I can tell you that the sites you menieontd will have many listings to view.An agent has some advantages though the MLS offers more current info about property status, past pricing on the properties, past sales, etc. There is also agent only info offered on the MLS about each property. So, I would suggest that you start looking online just to get a feel of availability and pricing in the areas that you’re interested in.If you would like to proceed and find a home to buy, you should visit any local real estate office, meet with any agent and get started. The agent will get your information like, areas you’re interested in, size of house (bedrooms, baths, sq’, etc) Do you want a basement (finished?) etc.The agent can help you find a lot of homes that fit your criteria as soon as they come on the market. But before you do anything, you must first get preapproved for a home mortgage. This is required to know if you can get a mortgage and how much you can borrow. Then you know what price range to look at.A local bank, your bank or credit union or other mortgage company can help you get started. Choose one yourself or ask your agent for a referral. We always work closely with reputable banks and mortgage companies and can guide you.The bank will need current financial information (income, w2 s, etc.)Even while you are working with an agent, use the online real estate sites and look at homes yourself too. You can call your agent with any you find and get more information about those from the agent.FYI, agents are paid by the sellers. No charge to the buyers.Good luck.
