Nextdoor is a new site that has just launched and the concept is genius! I have always said that it shouldn’t take a fire truck or an ambulance coming down your street to get the neighbors out of the house to meet and greet each other. Unfortunately, this is sometimes what it takes in many communities and neighborhoods.
Can you imagine all the resources available just NextDoor in your own neighborhood? Do you know what your neighbors do, how they make a living, or how they could benefit you? What if you and your family had access to them, their experiences, their knowledge, or even their references, influences or referrals? Now you can! Create a neighborhood social network and invite them to join!
It’s that easy. Instead of the current trend of social media connecting people all over the country and world, why not use it as a tool in our local neighborhoods and communities? Social networking combined with today’s global social media has created a local dilemma called “Social Not-working.”
Everyone is either in their homes on their computers, or out in the world with their faces buried in a mobile device oblivious to what’s happening in the world right around them. Nextdoor could be a fantastic tool to connect neighbors once again. Community BBQ’s, games in the streets, joint garage sales and community events etc. not to mention the resources that could be shared within any given neighborhood or community.
See if your neighborhood is available. If it is, join. If not, then create it and invite the neighbors. It’s time to take back our streets and we can use these types of online tools to do it. I’m right next door, do you even know my name? You’re right next door and I don’t think we’ve ever met. This 90 second video will explain how it works and why you should be involved with YOUR “NextDoor” neighborhood!
